Research Project Title
Dynamic Algorithms and Transformations (DAT) for Low-Power Communication
Systems
Principal Investigator
Naresh R. Shanbhag
Unit # 6
Project Overview
The goal of this research is to develop configurable modules for signal
processing and communication systems. Parametrizable modules for commonly
employed blocks such as equalizers, Reed-Solomon coders and decoders, motion-estimators
etc., are being designed.
These blocks have the property that the power consumption is a function
of the data and the environment. Thus, power-aware reconfigurable signal
processing systems can be designed via such blocks. The usefulness of the
research is being demonstrated by employing these in the design of a cable
modem.
This project is being conducted in the VLSI Information Processing Systems
(ViPS) Research Group that is part of the Illinois
Center for Integrated Microsystems (iCIMS) located in the Coordinated
Science Laboratory.
