Project Overview
This project investigates the end user requirements of public safety personnel.
The objectives of the project are:
(1) to understand, at the fundamental level, the tasks, needs, and
the behavioral issues of public safety personnel;
(2) to identify areas where new technologies, including wireless
video, may enhance/change how public safety personnel perform their responsibilities;
(3) to provide Motorola with information in developing new end user
devices for public safety personnel.
The subjects of this study include personnel from the Public Safety Departments
in the Champaign-Urbana Area, including law enforcement and fire fighting.
The study is conducted following the methodology of design ethnography research
in addition to the traditional approaches of user survey and focus groups.
The research is a joint effort between Motorola and UIUC researchers.
