Unit # 2
Project Overview

In this project we investigate end-to-end Quality of Service (QoS) issues, service and protocols in heterogeneous networks and their integration/coordination, which will serve for timely audio-visual media delivery in a heterogeneous environment. Our objectives are to:
(1) identify a list of technical challenges that the communication industry faces in terms of providing end-to-end QoS support for multimedia traffic in the emerging IP-ATM-Ethernet-Cable internetworking environment
(2) conduct a survey of existing networking/internetworking solutions for multimedia applications
(3) compare competitive advantages as well as limitations of each existing networking solution in terms of its ability to support end-to-end QoS, bandwidth management efficiency, scalability, etc.
(4) investigate a selected list of technical issues for QoS-based services and protocols in heterogeneous networked multimedia systems
(5) prepare a technical report to summarize the findings, recommend viable migration path, and propose specific technical solutions.
