Project Overview

This project focuses on the development of a novel electromagnetic modeling and simulation tool geared towards the fast analysis and optimization of integrated passives. The proposed tool will be based on a new fast transient electromagnetic field solver that is capable of simulating in a matter of minutes complex passives including the background topography (interconnects, components, layered medium structures). This scheme permits easy integration/hybridization with a SPICE-like, non-linear circuit simulator. The tool will be the very first to permit the full-wave, numerically rigorous and realistic analysis of complex passives and will be based upon the recently developed Plane Wave Time Domain (PWTD) algorithm, viz. the extension of the frequency-domain fast multipole method to the time domain.
